Each month the MMACHS school board honors one student who goes above and beyond both in and out of the classroom. In November, the board recognized Alison Pitman (Class of 2027). This December, Mya Buchmiller (Class of 2025) received the honor. Read more about these incredible students below.
Alison Pitman
As HOSA’s Fundraising Chair for the 2024-25 school year, Alison has dedicated herself to raising funds for the National Marrow Donor Program. Leading efforts like the Haunted Hospital, Holiday Bazaar, Food Nights, and even a Pumpkin Smashing event, Alison demonstrates a powerful blend of creativity and commitment to service. Her goal is to help others and support lifesaving initiatives that align with her passion for healthcare.
Alison’s involvement in HOSA extends beyond fundraising. She is a member of the HOSA Parliamentary Procedure Team this year. She was also part of the HOSA Biomedical Debate team in 2023, where she earned second place at the state level before competing at ILC. Alison’s competitive spirit and determination to excel push her to set ambitious goals in each of her pursuits.
Alison’s leadership shines within MMACHS as our sophomore representative on the Student Council, a member of the National Technical Honor Society, and an active participant in the Junior Medical Reserve Corps (JRMRC). Outside of school, Alison contributes to the FEMA Youth Preparedness Council for Region 10, where she leads emergency preparedness efforts. Her recent attendance at a summit in Seattle inspired her passion project: creating children’s books that make essential preparedness concepts accessible for homeschoolers and students with limited resources. In February, Alison will begin hosting storytime events in local libraries and hopes to extend these efforts to hospitals, showing her drive to reach out to younger audiences and make a difference.
One of Alison’s favorite ways to give back is through her hospice volunteer work. She dedicates time to meet with hospice patients, currently helping a patient with final arrangements such as home cleaning and gardening alongside her mom. This experience reinforces her long-term goal of becoming a Pediatric Oncologist—a calling that reflects her profound compassion and desire to bring comfort to others during difficult times.
In addition to her achievements in academics and service, Alison is a remarkable athlete. She played varsity softball as a freshman at Meridian High School and competes for the Idaho Intensity club team, traveling to tournaments across Arizona, California, and Portland. Alison’s goal is to play Division I softball, and she serves as both a mentor and inspiration for younger players, even hosting clinics to encourage their growth and love for the game. And I can attest she is an incredible powder-puff quarterback.
A former Compass Charter student, Alison chose to attend MMACHS out of her longstanding passion for medicine. She initially started on our waiting list but seized the opportunity to join just a week before the school year began. Today, she’s thriving with a 4.0 GPA and embodies the resilience, grit, and commitment that define our school community.
Mya Buchmiller
Mya Buchmiller, a senior at MMACHS, is being honored for her exceptional achievements and leadership. Mya is a shining example of what dedication, grit, and perseverance can accomplish, and we are thrilled to honor her as an outstanding representative of our school community.
Mya balances a full schedule as a Student Council Senior Representative and active HOSA member, all while maintaining a part-time job on weekends and achieving a 3.75 cumulative GPA, with an impressive 4.0 GPA this semester. Beyond her academic excellence, Mya is pursuing her Associate of Science in Health Sciences (ASHS) degree while still in high school and will graduate with her high school diploma, ASHS degree, and two industry certifications in EMT and Pharmacy Technician.
Her accomplishments extend to competitive success as well, including earning a state championship in Community Awareness at HOSA as a junior. After graduation, Mya plans to attend Idaho State University, majoring in Biology, with the ultimate goal of becoming an orthodontist.
At the board meeting, Mya's father, Joshua, spoke with pride about his daughter’s dedication and accomplishments. Although Mya's mother, Camille, could not attend, she shared a heartfelt narrative that provided the board with a glimpse into Mya's character, both in and out of school.
Mya embodies the spirit of MMACHS—a student with big dreams, incredible work ethic, and a strong support system. She is truly one of a kind, and we couldn’t be prouder of all that she has achieved. Congratulations, Mya, on your success and the bright future that lies ahead!
